Discoveries this week

This was a great week of training, and I made a few discoveries along the way...

I can, apparently, run 5km without too much trouble. I even came in under 34 minutes -- not bad for a first time ever at the tender age of 41. This was something I was totally worried about that I no longer have to worry about. Now I'm setting a goal to staying within 10 minutes of Dave's 5km time, knowing that he's out to improve his pace too.

Flying side kicks -- my kick is much stronger on my right leg (nothing new there), but I struggle with getting my left leg tucked to make that beautiful in air kicking picture. This week I discovered that while kicking with my left leg, my right leg comes up perfectly. The reason? My right leg is more used to being "picked up". The solution to getting a nicer flying side kick with the right leg? Do 1000 kicks with the other leg to get that one used to being "picked up". Fun!

Toning body parts: There's no way I'd ever do "sideways leg lifts" to trim down my outer thigh, much as I would enjoy the benefits of fitting into smaller skirts. However, tell me to do side kicks and flying side kicks to improve my technique, and I'll do it for 30 minutes straight, happily. And I still enjoy the benefits of fitting into smaller skirts.

Little discoveries like that make for a thoroughly enjoyable week.
